Peace Under the Volcano’s Eye

Their delight evidenced in 100 paper cranes cascading,
the young pre-teens carry rice and prawn
(my lunch, celeb)
as if it is an offering.

Shyly, eyes peek out of unkempt darkness, their kanji
poetry uttering peaceful grains. Fuji mountain, hiding
(yet awakened, giant)
to this funny ritual.
